Title Sequence Motion Design
Hong Kong Film Festival is a fictional film festival based on Hong Kong local movies. The theme of the 45th HKFF is classic Hong Kong movies, featuring well-known movies from the 90s and early 2000s. HKFF hopes to raise attention to the local film industry in Hong Kong and encourage emerging film creation.

The logo HKFF consists of the four initials of the Hong Kong Film Festival. The typeface is created with simple rectangular shapes and triangular serifs, with extreme contrast in weight. The achromatic colour scheme is a symbol for the action board and the movies in the old days. The geometric shapes in the background reveal an abstract form of “45”, the session of the HKFF 2018.
In order to create more visual interests and dynamic to the title sequence, the logo is generated from scattered shapes and morphing graphics. The stems of the letters are taken shape of divided rectangles, and the serifs are formed with triangles. The crossbars consist of dancing lines, which move based on the rhythm of the background music.
A few movie clips from the featured films are embedded in the background shapes to better appeal the audience. The three shapes are turned dissolved and noisy eventually, mimicking the TV static noise and giving a sense of “old movies”.
